SF Active es un sistema open source para manejar contenido usado como un sitio de publicación abierta de noticias.
SF Active comenzo como uqoriginated as a branch of active (an open source project used by www.indymedia.org) but most files have now been modified leaving little but the functionality in common. The main difference between sf-active and active is the use of all php files (rather than perl and php) and the use of mysql rather than postgres.
Modifications were originally made to suit the needs of the San Francisco Indymedia site (sf.indymedia.org) but it has rapidly been adopted by other indymedia sites leading to changed requirements (mainly for the needs of non-sf sites). The largest changes originally needed by the sf site were multiple features, administration of the center column with user management and a calendar. The features needed by other sites include internationalization and the structuring of directories so that multiple sites can use some of the same files (mainly classes)
